Code in Place

Early in the pandemic, during shelter-in-place lockdowns, I helped teach the first iteration of a free online Python class offered by Stanford University, called Code in Place. I contributed these illustrations to an open call for t-shirt designs at the end of the program.

Each one emphasizes a slightly different aspect:

  • a riff on the Python logo, incorporating community.

  • Karel the Robot, who was used extensively in lessons, coding at home as we were.

  • the global aspect of the initiative, with students and teachers tuning in from all different timezones. (The landmasses were intentionally ambiguous in an effort not to make any one country the central focus.)
